Testimony of Marie, a French Wayfarer in Warsaw
Even before helping with practical tasks, it is to love each of these people with all our heart, beyond the language barrier because the smile is universal :)

There are many passages in the Bible that evoke an exile, such as Babylon or the Holy Family. To be forced to flee, to leave everything that made up daily life and to lose these points of reference represents a real uprooting, the extent of which I was able to measure more during this service. Yes, we hear about war, as a war between two sides, but to witness the consequences for millions of people is quite different. I had the opportunity to talk several times with Ukrainians who had lost everything, and this showed me my fragility in the face of what they had experienced.
I could not understand but only love.

Among the missions we were given, such as cooking, sorting and putting away clothes, serving at the refreshment bar, I was marked by the moments spent with the children. I was able to attend the preparation of a show where everyone was invited to show their talent. Throughout the week, we prepared posters, a colourful panel and of course the numbers. Adults also joined in the fun by sharing a piece of Ukrainian music. Joy was on all faces! It was touching to see some of the mothers getting all dressed up for the occasion. This event illustrates the true communion that is created between all these people who, beyond sharing their daily life, can live together something extraordinary!
During this service I am particularly touched by the dedication of the Polish people who take turns to provide the various services in the centre. Some come every day after finishing work, others during their holidays and some give up their weekends and come with their work colleagues to show solidarity.

Many Ukrainians also volunteer as children who are happy to serve at the refreshment stand or make sure that everyone gets a ride on the popular scooter by holding a sheet of paper with slots marked. They are trying to make these difficult times sweeter by contributing in some way to the common good.
